Kat’s Thoughts:

This shoe got popular…. QUICK!  It’s been popular with several different market segments.  From ballet teachers who want something different to teach in to contemporary dancers for some extra protection…. to the sleek look of the competition dancers (as the next generation past the foot undeez styles).

I like that this shoe is wider than most of the competitors.  Male dancers, particularly, seemed to gravitate to this shoe precisely BECAUSE of the wider opening of the shoe.  Narrow feet – avoid this shoe unless you have to.  If you need to color match – consider Body Wrappers’ canvas version instead.  It’s just as good – just a slight bit narrower and less “shiny” than leather.

This leather shoe did seem to stretch, but not as much as some of it’s popular competitors.  Parents liked the price point of the shoe (more than a ballet shoe, less than a full jazz shoe).  The only complaint I ever got was tearing at the pleats/sole (although, in retrospect – I suspect it was more due to turning on steel-wool like hotel carpet at various conventions) and that it took a little bit of “getting used to” as compared to a regular jazz shoe since there isn’t a heel on this shoe.

Sizing Info:  Body Wrappers says “For adults – for a comfortable fit, go down two sizes from street shoe; for a snug fit, go down three sizes from street shoe. For children – same as street”

However – we’ve seen variation/wiggle room in this shoe due to the fact that there’s no backing.  If you can try it on in person – by all means do so first and be flexible to changing from the size guidelines.

Material/Content:  Leather with  ½” elastic sewn at the back of the shoe.

Intro Date:  2009-ish

Discontinue Date:  n/a

Other Notes:  This is a pretty popular shoe.  Particularly when getting ready for competitive dance season.  Backorders aren’t always experienced – but can be several weeks (4-6+ weeks in the past) if dates are of absolute concern.

*A note about prices – while the MSRP is listed – it is just that.  Please remember that your local dance store also has to cover shipping costs, lights, rent, other utilities, and oh yeah – HUMANS!  When you go into a local dance store – please realize that you are possibly paying a premium for their expertise, knowledge, and having (most) products there on hand.  That’s not cheap.  Please don’t go “window shopping” there only to save a few bucks.  Especially on products under $100, it’s really not worth it.  Support your local store. Please.  When you do, you validate why we have physical stores and why we, as store owners, dedicate ourselves to providing you with products and knowledge we can stand behind.
